News|Hot stuff in TaupoThis is a traditional arts event in which the focus is on a New Zealand burning man - something slightly akin to the European wicker man tradition, but actually imported from an annual San Franciscan tradition in the 1980s. While those staying on site bring their own goods and shelter - with no shops at the location - visitors may wish to come for the day, with the focus being on giving, performance, art and carbon neutrality. The event carries the motto "Build something, fly something, float something, burn something." It is held for six days from January 21st and the site is just off the Wakkamaru Road, heading north-west out of Taupo. Meanwhile, those who prefer water to fire can enjoy Lake Taupo, or the nearby Huka Falls, a dramatic cascade on the Waikato River.
