Lake Taupo hotels may be fully booked this summer, as the Erupt Festival is to be held in the area.

The event will kick off on May 10th and continue for 11 days in which visitors  will be treated to live entertainment including  music, dance, cabaret and comedy.

In 2010, as many as 20,000 people turned up for the Erupt Festival, with attendees travelling from other regions including the Bay of Plenty and Wellington.

During that year there were seven exhibitions, 66 performance arts events and 54 educational workshops and activities.

It is likely a similar line-up will be planned for 2012, but the full programme will not be revealed until March.

"The festival has gained a reputation for artistic excellence and prides itself on strong and innovative New Zealand content, complemented by international work," the organisers stated.

Erupt recently organised a street art festival in October 2011 called Graffiato, which was held on the 22nd and 23rd of the month.
