Sportspeople entering the Xterra Rotorua Festival may be able to find space in Rotorua hotels to stay while the event is on.

There will be five races as part of the occasion and they will be held on April 14th, although contestants can register the day before if they wish.

Events include an 11 km walk and run, a 21 km walk and run and a 26 km mountain bike ride.

Meanwhile, Xterra races are triathlons that include running, swimming and cycling and can be completed by individuals or teams.

While the adults compete, kids are provided with a playground to pass the time, as well as other activities.

The races take place at Blue Lake in Rotorua from 08:00 until 19:00 local time.

Visitors could also go to the region's conservation park Rainbow Springs where the Big Splash ride was recently launched, taking families on an educational journey on water.
