Showcasing the talent of many individuals from throughout the Bay of Plenty region, the Rotorua
Wearable Creations and Colour Awards is a charitable, wearable arts fashion show. Having become a
spectacular world class event with dramatic sound and lighting effects, this feast of entertainment
is completed by musicians and dancers.
Celebrating the creativity of communities whilst helping build the self-esteem and confidence
of many, the young generation in particular, the event is hosted by a New Zealand celebrity.
Committed to foster, contribute to and promote arts culture in Rotorua, the Rotorua Creative
Art Trust is responsible for organising the annual event. The unique arts exhibition is a platform
for many artists to showcase and sell their creations. The exhibition also contributes to enrich
the community’s cultural environment.
From its first ever show in 2003, this iconic event has grown in popularity and quality. The
exhibition was designed not only to tap a broad portion of the public including potential viewers
and purchasers, but also to create exposure and sales opportunities for artists.
The fascinating history of the famed exhibition is also showcased as part of the event with
the use of memorabilia, various past entries and press clippings. Ensuring the event presents items
that appeal to a variety of tastes, artists can participate by invitation only.
This year’s edition of Wearable Creations and Colour Awards took place from the 18 - 20
August at the Energy Event Centre. Striving to excite, educate and engage the Rotorua community as
well as visitors, this much anticipated event featured the wonderful artistic talents of numerous
designers under several categories.
