From hiking in lush green mountainous areas to kayaking in placid lakes, the impressive list of things you can do in Rotorua bring forth the best of New Zealand's adventure related offerings. Although sightseeing in Rotorua is still very much alive, the city is more popularly known for its nature related attractions, which include breathtaking lakes and scenic mountain ranges.

Explosive story

Lake Rotorua looks peaceful today, but it only exists today because of a massive volcanic eruption 200,000 years ago. The explosion created a 16 kilometre (10 mile) wide caldera in which the lake formed. Evidence of this volcanic birth can be seen even today as steam and vapour bubble up at times in this amazing Rotorua Lake. New Zealand has few places more fascinating.

Fast and slow on the water

If you are keen on kayaking, many tour operators rent out kayaks and all the necessary gear to explore the surrounding lake area. You could also enjoy a thrilling jet boating experience after booking a seat on board the Kawarau Jet.
