Among these four seasons, autumn is considered to be the most spectacular. It is during this period that tree lined streets with the backdrop of hillsides present breathtaking scenery formed by an eclectic blend of the colours red, gold and orange. This alluring phenomenon which has long been attracting local and foreign tourists is annually celebrated as the Arrowtown Autumn Festival, which is presently among the leading festivals and events around Queenstown. Autumn Festival in Arrowtown, revolves around celebrating the magnificent colours and the slowing pace of autumn. During the festival, Arrowtown which is a charming historic gold mining town, comes alive with the festival’s main feature, the parade. Featuring colourful floats, street entertainers, cars and bands, the parade sees visitors lining the footpaths to catch a glimpse of its charisma. In addition to providing entertainment to the spectators, the parade offers an opportunity for retailers and locals to showcase their skills and promote their businesses. Perhaps the most mature band in New Zealand, the Arrow Miners Band is a special highlight at the festival. A group of female dancers called “Buckingham Belles” provide street entertainment whilst an art and craft market, an art exhibition, a musical, a vintage car rally, tree tours, jazz performances, country music performances, workshops, guided historical walks, old fashioned picnics and cooking demonstrations are also among the many features of the dynamic festival, making it the ideal event for some family fun.
