Music lovers who want to try something a little different may wish to see Alex and BB play banjo in Whangarei.

The pair, who will be performing at the Community Arts Centre in the Whangarei Old Library Building on Friday December 9th, is made up of Alex Borwick and Catherine 'BB' Bowness.

They combine a five-string banjo and an Irish tenor banjo in an effort to provide new insight into an instrument normally linked with country music and the Beverley Hillbillies.

NZ Musician Magazine said of the duo's EP - Play Banjo - that "they work together so well it's almost like hearing one nine-string banjo played by a four-handed banjo demon".

People booked into a Whangarei hotel in the region will need to show up at 20:00 local time for the start of the show, which is three hours long.

Other events at the Old Library Building include Midday Madness, a lunchtime event every Wednesday that sees a variety of acts take to the stage such as jazz and blues bands.
