Crafters could be booking rooms in Wellington hotels in readiness for the Handmade festival, which will be held in the city later this year.

The event will be hosted between June 2nd and 3rd and features 80 different activities for creative people to get stuck into, some of which are suitable for complete beginners and others for amateurs, as well as classes aimed at experts.

"Handmade 2012 is the perfect excuse to visit Wellington - the coolest little capital in the world," the organisers stated.

"Enjoy the opportunity to explore the cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries and take in the signs, sounds and tastes," they added.

The activities included in the programme include workshops, masterclasses and lectures, which each fall into one of eight categories - remade, taste, yarn, homework, heirloom, stitch, free range and world.

Although most activities are short enough for people to fit a lot into their weekend, there are also full-day workshops in making jewellery from recycled silver.
