News|Boardwalk Festival brings river races to WanganuiOn January 23rd, races will be held on the river and individuals will congregate between City Bridge and the Waimarie to watch. There will also be live music from artists including Charles Ponga and Band and Blues Buffet as well as exhibitions and food stalls. "Head down to the riverfront Boardwalk ... and experience a FUNtastic day out for the whole family," the organisers urged. The event is held on Wellington Anniversary Weekend and is sponsored by local radio station More FM 92.8 Wanganui. A newly restored tram will be revealed to the public in the afternoon and there will be performances from Super Collective Quarter and dance troupes including Salsa on the Awa. Those who enjoy watching the rowing on the day may be interested to know the Whanganui River hosts international competitions in the sport such as the Billy Webb Centennial Challenge.
