News|Steampunk exhibit held in OamaruThe trend is already celebrated and preserved in the local area by Steampunk HQ, which lies at the edge of the town's Historic Precinct and contains steam-powered devices and "curious machines". However, there will now also be a collection displayed at the North Otago Museum, where visitors can see examples of garments from Steampunk fashion. Curator Chloe Searle said: "Both the Steampunk creations and original Victorian items are amazing. Come along, check out these fascinating items and be inspired." Some of the strange clothes and accessories on display include a fan made with a real hummingbird, the garments of a moon explorer, the costume of a Dragon Rider and that of an aviatrix. The items on display will be changed regularly and another curiosity individuals can look at includes Thomas Forrester's microscope. Also in Oamaru, holidaymakers can visit the Forrester Art Gallery, Grainstore Gallery or take the Great Estates Tour. Book your Stay at the Kingsgate Hotel Brydone Oamaru ![]() 12/01/2012 |
