Holiday in Auckland
Location & Attractions|Holiday in AucklandA delight for enthusiasts of sailing, the waters adjoining the city are often enlivened by a vast array of vividly coloured sails. Perhaps the most picturesque way to view the city is by water on a sailing boat taking in the sights of the lovely harbour, or via ferry cruise to the breathtaking islands in the gulf. Whilst a visit to Mount Eden will offer sweeping views of the region, it will also provide the opportunity for visitors to see the highest volcanic peak in the mainland area. The vibrant downtown area boasts a building that is among the highest in the southern hemisphere, the Sky Tower. Not only is the tower an ideal location for a bird’s eye view of the city, but those who are brave enough can partake in a base-jump secured by a wire from a platform situated at 192 meters of the building. Or strap on a full body safety harness and walk to the perimeter of the platform where railings do not exist! Visitors should make space in their itinerary to visit the Auckland War Memorial Museum, which is perennially popular for its exhibits of New Zealand’s history, Pacific Island and Maori artefacts as well as cultural presentations. Also popular is shopping on Parnell Road with its quaint shops and traders, as well as Broadway Newmarket which offers the latest fashions and specialty items. Other not to be missed highlights in Auckland is the New Zealand National Maritime Museum, Auckland Zoo and the Kelly Tarlton Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World. For Auckland holiday accommodation, look no further than the Kingsgate Hotel Parnell, Auckland, a comfortable hotel conveniently located between Newmarket and the city centre, and less than 1 kilometre from the Vector Arena and Parnell village. |
