News|Arrowtown Autumn Festival to be held near QueenstownThe local event runs every year and booking a room in time for the occasion could be a great way of seeing the surrounding scenery at its most colourful. "Each autumn, as the trees and hillsides of this historic gold mining town turn vibrant red and gold, the local streets come to life in celebration," it was stated on Eventfinder.co.nz. In 2012, the festival will be held between Friday 20th and Sunday 29th April and a diverse range of entertainment is planned, although the full programme will not be released until next month. Over 50 features are promised over the ten days of the event, including gold panning, live music, cooking demonstrations, guided walks, aerobatics, dancers and exhibitions. There will also be a market for those who wish to take home a souvenir and workshops for people who want to go one step further and make their own keepsake. Gold was first discovered in Arrowtown 150 years ago by a shearer called Jack Tewa, who found the metal in May 1861.
