The Newtown Festival will be held later this month, which may mean attendees need to book Wellington hotels.

Scheduled for February 20th until March 20th, the event will be held including various activities organised by a local community.

Newtown is a suburb of Wellington and there will be plenty happening in the area throughout the month, including the Carrara Park Jazz Picnic, the Wellington Zoo Kids Day, a celebration of classic cars and several live music concerts.

People who do not know the region well may be interested in turning up on March 4th for the Newtown Walkabout with Mayor Celia Wade-Brown to learn more about the community.

On the same day, visitors can enjoy many more events including the town's Art Project, the Wellington Car Club Hill Climb, a cycling meet called the Grupetto and the Buskers Pitch, with street performers providing entertainment all day.

However, the focus of the festival is the Street Fair, which will also be held on March 4th and is said to be attracting an increasing number of visitors.

"Every year is more popular than last, with around 60,000 people from Newtown, Wellington and from all over New Zealand coming to enjoy the Street Fair in 2008," the organisers state.
