Ethnically diverse, Wellington is a hub of entertainment in New Zealand. Although most who travel to the windy city do so in search of adventure, there is much more to experience here be it popular cultural events or visiting an iconic local attraction. In October, the Dragon Boat Festival in Wellington is one such event that has grown in popularity among the locals over the years.

Regarded as a much anticipated boat racing event in Wellington, the Dragon Boat Festival attracts the finest local rowers to the Wellington Harbour waterfront where they compete for the glory of wining this coveted event. As the course route runs parallel to the shoreline, spectators will find plenty of great vantage points to catch a glimpse of the action as it unfold.

Thousands of visitors gather around Frank Kitts Park to witness the action every year and to enjoy the excitement of the event. Those competing on each category of the boat races held within the two days have the chance of walking away with various trophies, prizes and medals for their participation and achievements.

Race day one usually plays host to the feature racing events where countless teams go head to head to be pen ultimately crowned champions. The grand finale of the adult races is usually held towards the latter part of the day attracting much fervour and excitement. Race day two focuses on junior race events involving school participants. These races are also quite fiercely contested and eagerly awaited.
