Regarded as a much anticipated boat racing event in Wellington, the Dragon Boat Festival
attracts the finest local rowers to the Wellington Harbour waterfront where they compete for the
glory of wining this coveted event. As the course route runs parallel to the shoreline, spectators
will find plenty of great vantage points to catch a glimpse of the action as it unfold.
Thousands of visitors gather around Frank Kitts Park to witness the action every year and to
enjoy the excitement of the event. Those competing on each category of the boat races held within
the two days have the chance of walking away with various trophies, prizes and medals for their
participation and achievements.
Race day one usually plays host to the feature racing events where countless teams go head to
head to be pen ultimately crowned champions. The grand finale of the adult races is usually held
towards the latter part of the day attracting much fervour and excitement. Race day two focuses on
junior race events involving school participants. These races are also quite fiercely contested and
eagerly awaited.
