Marlborough hotels may be packed in August when the Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival is held.

The date for the event has now been set for between Wednesday August 1st and Saturday August 4th.

People staying in Marlborough hotels are likely to be the families of some of the competitors, as the festival is a competition that children from South Island Secondary Schools can take part in.

But it is not all about winning, as there are plenty of chances to learn more about jazz while kids are there, with master classes held by musician Rodger Fox.

This will be the tenth anniversary of the event and will include a repeat of last year's Gala Concert, which traditionally concludes the festival.

In 2011, the judges of the competitions and Rodger Fox chose children to be in an All Star Band, which played at the Marlborough Boys' College Hall alongside other performers.

Visitors to the area for the festival could also enjoy the local region.
