Bay of Islands hotels are likely to be the perfect stopping point for those heading to the area next month for the Kerikeri Ocean and Orchard Festival 2012.

The event is a celebration of the food and drink produced in this area of New Zealand and attendees will be able to sample wine and cuisine and take in entertainment from local musicians, as well as compete in food-related competitions.

Doors open at 13:00 local time on February 25th and guests can relax in the 50 gazebos being set up for the festival, which will be accompanied by a competition marquee, stage and water sculpture from world-renowned sculptor Chris Booth, a resident of Kerikeri.

Among the acts performing during the course of the day are local jazz band Thelonious Punk, as well as singer-songwriter Taylah Barker.

Tourists heading to the area are advised to bring sunscreen and a hat to the event to protect them from the heat, but have been warned that it will go ahead even if the weather is less favourable.
