Auckland hotels may be in great demand this month, as the Big Day Out music festival is coming to town.

The event will be held at the Mt Smart Stadium on Friday January 20th and will see a whole host of major international names take the stage.

Among those likely to draw in the crowds are Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, My Chemical Romance, Soundgarden and Kasabian.

Joining the all-day line-up are Battles, the Vaccines, Bassnectar, Nero and Cairo Knife Fight.

The event will start at 10:30 local time and offer nonstop entertainment until Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds finish their headlining slot at 23:30.

Acts will be playing across three stages - called Big Day Out, Converse Green and Boiler Room - while a skate ramp will also be set up.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Big Day Out festivals and organisers Viv Lees and Ken West said they intended to deliver "shows that will stand the test of time and continue to reflect both musically and culturally as a backdrop to peoples' lives".
