News|16th Heroic Gardens Festival held in Auckland in FebruaryThe event - the 16th of its kind to have been held - is scheduled for the weekend of February 18th and 19th. It will be held in privately owned gardens and proceeds go to charity, with the occasion supporting the local Mercy Hospice Auckland. Originally, the event was created to raise funds for Auckland City Missions' Herne Bay House - a care and respite centre for people with HIV/Aids. Indeed, for the first 15 years, the gardens on show belonged to people from the local gay and lesbian community, but this has now been opened up to anybody from the city. The spaces visitors can view include six Coatesville gardens as well as smaller ones in the city. People who want to help the festival raise the NZ$50,000 for the hospice the organisers are aiming for may also want to enter a raffle for a NZ$3,000 Palmco voucher.
